The NOT Design story
NOT Design was founded from one person's need to make illustrations and everyday objects that delight their viewer and work well.
Hanna Rauma is an Oulu-based ceramicist, illustrator, designer and Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration who draws inspiration from dreams, the world's craft traditions and problem-solving. All kinds of creatures and houseplants are dear to her.
In her other work, Rauma leads Northern Finland's designers as Executive Director of PROTO ry. In her free time she enjoys the bog or the forest, walking or skiing, most likely with a mushroom basket or coffee cup in hand.
Having studied at the universities of Oulu and Lapland and at Helsinki Design School, Rauma has practised ceramics for 12 years. A beloved hobby gradually became a profession — the decisive moment was setting up a ceramic-kiln studio on Oulu's Pikisaari in early 2020.
Services
In addition to ceramics, 3D modelling and design, and illustration work, NOT Design also offers graphic design and photography on a smaller scale.
Simple but NOT
Behind the name NOT Design lies a wordplay: all the company's products are simple at their core, yet something entirely different — "simple but NOT".
Alongside things that bring joy, I also crave challenges. I want to create better products that solve real problems.
