Is there a corner of your home you'd like more from?

Perhaps a cosy reading nook, a more functional kitchen, a laundry area or a relaxing bathroom. Gardens often hide spots that could become sheltered, welcoming outdoor living spaces.

Design process

Together we choose a space you'd like to change — indoors or out. We go through the functions and mood you want, what you especially love. Are there existing things we can use as a starting point?

For me, design means creating durable solutions that serve the people using the space and how they use it. I'm especially happy when

  1. we can keep existing things and make them updated and more functional.
  2. our solutions work in practice: things find their place and don't get in the way.
  3. we bring out your story in a way that feels truly yours.
  4. the materials we use are durable and environmentally friendly.
  5. what we build lasts and can be updated and adapted as life changes. Life moves — home is built around it.
  6. designing hidden doors and compartments is especially fun. Why should doors be boring?

Hanna Rauma

I'm Hanna Rauma — designer, ceramicist and illustrator behind NOT Design. I'm inspired by people and the marks their hands leave, good insights and stories, and craft traditions from around the world. I love personal design gems you don't see everywhere.

We spend much of our lives at home. I believe that when everything has its place, you're surrounded by things you love and hideaways from grey everyday life, life can give its best.

I design details, kitchens, cabinetry and gardens starting from your everyday life — but to dullness, dreariness and grey I say: NOT today.

What I do especially well

Materials and details Ceramics Garden design Kitchen design Storage solutions Interior project Lighting Cosy space Details

I know a wide range of small Finnish and European makers and manufacturers. I love design — but not necessarily the kind you see everywhere. The loveliest finds are those you won't find in every home. Even small things like a coat hook or toilet roll holder can be something other than the plastic and metal basics on hardware store shelves. Small details easily spread joy when they're loved by the people who live with them and work well in use.

I also know materials deeply. Ceramic tiles are especially close to my heart, and I'm happy to make them myself for smaller projects. As a product designer I can create other individual pieces for spaces when needed. My network includes many artists and designers whose skills and production we can draw on in spatial design.

By nature I'm someone who'd like to keep everything — but that's not always possible. I've learned that home stays tidier and works better when everything has its place and chosen treasures get the space they deserve. Even a laundry room works differently when the ironing board, drying racks, baskets, detergent and hampers have proper homes instead of cluttering a corner. Some things belong hidden behind doors; others need to be on open shelves within reach. A laundry basket doesn't have to be the eternal plastic version — beautiful baskets exist aplenty.

If you want plants indoors or in the garden, I'm happy to share care tips so they thrive. When planning gardens I pay special attention to which plants suit each other and the conditions on site. As a flower lover, I enjoy designing a garden that blooms from May through October.
